Never liked Bubur Chacha as a kid, but now I suppose my Peranakan palate has matured! This unique Malaysian hot dessert made of coconut milk, Gula Melaka (coconut palm sugar), sago, banana, various tubers and homemade tapioca balls coloured with pandan leaves, took an entire afternoon. Now I understand why it was a special affair whenever my aunt made it back in the day! Mummy approved of this attempt. She said it was “Okay la.” Getting an okay from my mum is huge.
