The popular Ho Kow Hainan Kopitiam beside Petaling Street, with a whopping average waiting time of 30 - 60 mins. This place has permanently long queues each time I pass by, finally braved myself for a try since I was nearby.
This kopitiam which serves authentic Hainanese cuisine, toast, and of course, coffee used to be a stall at the back alley for decades, and recently shifted to this proper shop. Tried their perfect soft-boiled eggs, richly brewed cham & coffee, and toast bun with crunchy peanuts, butter and kaya. There's a wide selection of bread, noodles, nasi lemak, dim sum etc, but I was too full to try after an earlier lunch.
The bread, drinks and egg open counter is staffed by some 10 young college-looking kids, non-stop churning out these signature items from 7.30am - 3.30pm. The old founder uncle himself helps carry the food to serve you with a smile, cleans the tables, and thanks customers as they leave.
Had to take a number from the queueing machine (like a bank), and waited some 30 mins. You can even pre-book your spot with an online queueing app. Fortunately, it's right beside the famous 鬼仔巷 (Little Ghost Alley), which has nice vintage murals of the 1960‘s Chinese lifestyle, so you can pass your time there with a mini sightseeing tour and snapping photos.
