I always have Pinxin on my to-eat list whenever I’m in Penang and this time it was no different.
I was looking forward to the Nasi Kandar as I enjoyed it tremendously during my last trip in May.
Unfortunately, they didn’t have it so we had the following instead:
🌱古瑪天貝椰油飯 NL3. NASI LEMAK KURMA CURRY RM21 Aromatic virgin coconut oil rice with mushroom and tempeh in creamy green kurma curry
🌱猴頭菇沙爹椰油飯 NL5. NASI LEMAK SATAY RM21 Aromatic virgin coconut oil rice with Pinxin's Hericium Satay & Pinxin's Satay Chilli
🌱杯有機豆干飯 R4. THREE CUP TOFU & MUSHROOM RICE RM20 Fragrant, basil and savoury spiced three cup soup with assorted mushrooms and vegetables
Total RM62.00
I enjoyed the Nasi Lemak Kurma Curry a lot! Especially since it had tempeh cooked in 2 different ways 🙂
The satay was ok but I don’t think I would have it again, I’d rather go for the Nasi Kandar or the Kurma.
We brought a non-vegan friend along and he had the 3-cup tofu with mushroom rice. He seemed to enjoy it although it’s not really my kind.
I think I enjoy the Asam Laksa or the Curry Noodles better. But the curry noodles is cashew-based and Mr Jazz Guitarist is sort of allergic to cashews, so we avoided that.
Some people have commented that the service has gone down and I think it depends on who’s serving you.
When we walked in, we were pretty much ignored and no one showed us to our table. Our friend I think got impatient and went to the cashier to tell them we needed a table and that’s when they brought out chairs to an empty table.
The lady who took our orders was really nice and even offered to key in the orders for us. (I really hate ordering via a QR code and I know some of you don’t like it too!)
We had to wait for more than 35 minutes for our food to arrive. Even then, it came in very slowly. One dish and then another 10 mins for the next one and then we still had to wait for a looong time before our third dish arrived.
When we asked them to check on the food, they just said they had a lot of orders.
No apologies were given for the looooong wait.
I don’t think I want to bring any of my non-vegan friends here if the wait is that long (during May 2022 we needed to wait for a looooooong time too so this isn’t a one-off thing…)
