🎂🥳BIRTHDAY LUNCH AT Sprout Plant Based Fusion, Bangsar🎂🥳

Took me some time to figure out where to take mum for her birthday.
I wanted to take her for the set lunch at St Regis but they only offered vegetarian options, not vegan ones.

Then I thought Botanica + Co would be nice too as they have lots of trees at Bangsar South. Unfortunately even though they have lots of vegetarian options, they couldn’t veganise anything as the sauces all contain eggs and/or dairy.

I’ve already taken her to most of the usual suspects such as Sushi Kitchen, Veggielicious Thai, The Hungry Tapir (online delivery lah - driving to that part of KL is stressful for me) and Barat so I was cracking my head where else to go.
And then I remembered we haven’t been to Sprout in Bangsar yet.
I’m glad we did as she enjoyed the lunch!

We had:
🌱Summer Rolls Royce RM18.00
Vietnamese Rice Paper, Purple Cabbage, Butterhead Lettuce, Zucchini, Bell Pepper, Mango, Avocado, Fresh Herbs, Cashew Nut-Sriracha Dipping Sauce
🌱Banh Mi From Eating More RM22
Lemongrass and Coriander Tofu, Mushroom Pate, Vietnamese Pickles, Whole Wheat Baguette
This comes with a choice of sides so we went for Sweet Potato Fries.
🌱Philly "Cheesesteak"
Shaved “Tofusteak”, Vegan Cheese Sauce, Caramelized Onions, Sautéed Mushrooms, Whole Wheat Baguette. Choice of side: Crispy Chickpeas
RM22
🌱Vegan Mushroom and Leek Quiche RM15
🌱Pavlova RM15
Vegan Meringue, Strawberries, Coconut Whipped Cream
🌱Churros RM15
Deep Fried Dough, Chocolate Ganache or Caramel Sauce
Subtotal: RM107.00
Service Tax 6%: 6.42
Rounding -0.02
TOTAL: RM113.40

I enjoyed the quiche tremendously!! It was sooo buttery. It’s not something I can eat whole on it’s own as it’s too rich for me as I usually eat clean but since we split everything into 3, that was a nice ⅓ portion for me.

The pavlova was fantastic! It’s been quite some time since I had vegan pavlova.
I thought the summer rolls were a bit boring but mum and Mr Jazz Guitarist enjoyed them. I have to admit they were nice and refreshing.

The Bahn Mi was a bit disappointing as it didn’t taste like the ones I used to have in Vietnam. But then again, they do call themselves fusion, so maybe it’s not supposed to be authentic tasting?
I actually enjoyed the Philly "Cheesesteak" but mum said it was too sweet. I just thought that the size was really tiny compared to the ones that I’ve had in the US. When you order a Vegan Philly "Cheesesteak", you expect something large with bursting with lots of filling. This one looked like a really skinny version of the real deal. (I think Sala used to have vegan Philly cheesesteaks from time to time and that was larger then this one.)

Ahh…the churros… It’s deep-fried so I generally would avoid this but Mr Jazz Guitarist had such a sparkle in his eye when he saw it on the menu I didn’t have the heart to say No to him. (Now I know how parents feel when their kids want to eat unhealthy vegan food).
Also, since there were only 2 items on the printed menu for dessert and the churros was one of them, I thought ok lah, we’ll get it.

Silly me, there were actually other desserts of the day at the counter on the other side but I didn’t realise that.

I was so disappointed that it was served with caramel sauce instead of chocolate sauce like how I used to have it in Spain.

Hmm…maybe I should have just asked if they could have given us chocolate sauce coz later I noticed that on the menu you have a choice - but the server never asked us or informed us of the choice.

Anyway, I did have a conversation with Mr Jazz Guitarist later about the churros and I think from now on, he will try to avoid deep fried food.
Overall, it was a pleasant lunch for all of us. It’s a place I would bring my non-vegan friends to have the quiche and pavlova - yums!
