10 million dollars are set aside by the American Egg Board for advertising every year. Because the board is overseen by the federal government, egg companies are not allowed to lie with those funds.

This means that egg corporations (by law) cannot advertise eggs as healthy or nutritious, says the USDA. For a food to be labeled “healthy” it has to be low in saturated fat and have less than 90mg of cholesterol per serving (eggs fail both of these tests).

Not only can they not say eggs are healthy, they can’t even refer to eggs as safe because more than a hundred thousand Americans are poisoned by Salmonella from eggs each year.
