Every Thanksgiving, more than 45 million turkeys are killed to be eaten in the United States. As you can imagine, the process is disturbing to say the least.
Baby turkeys are hatched in large incubators, never able to see their mothers, and are transferred to large, windowless barns with tens of thousands of other birds.
To keep the birds from hurting each other (i.e. hurting profits) the baby birds have the tips of their beaks cut off without any painkillers.
They are bred to grow as large and as quickly as possible, many suffering from their unnatural size.
At 5 to 6 months old, turkeys are sent to the slaughterhouse where they face being forcibly hung upside down, their heads are dunk in electrified water, and then their throats are slit. In the wild, they can live to be 10 years old.
Is a few bites of their flesh worth their suffering?
