Action Alert. In The United States, Around 260 Million Day-old Male Chicks Are K..
🚨Action Alert🚨
In the United States, around 260 million day-old male chicks are killed each year, or around 30,000 chicks every hour, simply for being born male in the egg industry.
Why? Male chicks cannot lay eggs and are not the chicken breed used for meat, so once they are separated from the females, they are disposed of like trash, either suffocated to death or ground up alive in large industrial macerators.
Unfortunately, this is all completely legal.
That is why Animal Equality is raising awareness and trying to create change for the millions of male chicks killed each year. And we see light at the end of the tunnel.
An alternative, called “in-ovo sexing,” is currently in development – and already being used in some countries – to help bring this horrific practice to an end. The aim of in-ovo sexing is to prevent male chicks from hatching in the first place: the sex of the embryo is established before the hatching date. The male eggs are removed from incubation early on, so only female chicks emerge from the eggs after 21 days of incubation.
This issue needs to be prioritized to help spare millions of animals each year from a horrific death. And we need your help to get there.
Please contact your US state legislators now to put chick culling on their radar and ask them to support a ban on killing day-old male chicks! 👉 https://my.animalequality.org/a/please-ask-ban-male-chick-culling
