The Owl That Lost His Way
This is a beautiful short film directed by Christopher DeVanney about a snowy owl named Titan that arrived at the Cobequid Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in Nova Scotia, Canada, through an incredible Journey.
Shot with footage from the centre and interviews with the crew of the trawler who rescued him and those who nursed him back to health, Titan’s journey from certain death to release back into the wild is a true story that will make you smile.
This video is a great inspiration to rescue animals in distress, but to do so responsibly and in a well-informed manner. As the vet at CWRC points out, if the crew of the fishing boat hadn't contacted the wildlife authorities to learn how to care for Titan until they could bring him ashore, he'd have perished on the boat.
There's something utterly mesmerising about owls, isn't there? Most of us could sit and look at them for hours. Titan reminds us, however, that they're wild animals. They're not pets, not meant to live in captivity.
Over the past several years, it's refreshing to see the rising awareness that animals do not exist for our entertainment, and more people are coming to the conclusion that they don't exist to be our food, either.
