These articles appear from time to time, and they're simultaneously correct and misleading. The reality is you can get a little extra food vs. a pure vegan diet by grazing animals on land unsuitable for farming. But doing that comes at a huge cost of removing wildlife habitat.
The bottom line is a vegan diet is damned sustainable, and head-and-shoulders above any diet that's rich in animal products. And that's even before you get into the methane produced by any livestock raised for food. You can make a strong case that in an era of climate change, we can no longer afford the greenhouse gases produced by cattle, pigs, and sheep.
