Even more animal lovers on the red carpet!
Even more animal lovers on the red carpet!
They may or may not have taken home the big prizes for their work on screen, but these actors are walking the talk when it comes to animal welfare. We posted six Golden Globe nominees yesterday who are deeply devoted to compassionate living, and here are seven more.
Edie Falconer
The virtuoso behind Carmela Soprano has gotten recognition for her talents once again with her Best Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy nomination for “Nurse Jackie.” A long time vegetarian, Falco loves her rescued dogs and has teamed up with PETA to speak up on behalf of elephants and adopting instead of shopping.
Ricky Gervais
If ever there was a star who likes to speak up loudly and proudly on his love for animals, it’s Mr. Gervais. One of this year’s Best Actor in a TV Series nominees for the title role in “Derek,” Ricky is staunchly against cosmetics testing on animals, vivisection, hunting and poaching.
Woody Harrelson
Well known for his dedication to his vegan diet (producers on Zombieland had a vegan Twinkie made just for him) and his compassion toward animals, the Best Actor in a mini-Series or TV Movie for “True Detective” nominee has worked with the Humane Society of the United States in a campaign to end ivory poaching. He’s also worked alongside PETA to end testing on animals by Gillette and participated in their campaign to end the use of animals in training exercises at Texas Tech.
Matthew McConaughey
Giving Harrelson a run for his money with his own nod for Best Actor in a Mini-Series or TV Movie for “True Detective,” McConaughey loves animals too. After Hurricane Katrina, he helped to rescue 50 trapped dogs from the disaster. He also rescued a seal pup from kids who were poking and prodding him on a beach by delivering a blistering lecture on seal behavior.
Billy Bob Thornton
The Best Actor in a Mini-Series or TV Movie nominee for his chilling turn in “Fargo” keeps his diet plant-based, enjoying local health food stores when filming on location.
Allison Janney
Shelter animals have a special place in the heart of this Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Mini-Series or TV Movie nominee for “Mom.” The host of a PBS series called “Shelter Me: New Beginnings,” Janney raises awareness for homeless animals and shares her home with three rescued dogs of her own.
Alan Cumming
Legendarily multi-talented, this nominee for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Mini-Series or TV Movie for “The Good Wife,” is also vegan and an advocate for animal welfare. He made headlines recently when he took Lady Gaga to task for wearing fur, tweeting,”"I’m so disappointed to learn @ladygaga wears fur! Guess she doesn’t love all little monsters.”
Don't you love it when entertainers use their celebrity for a good purpose? You can be a compassionate role model, too, by moving toward a more plant-based diet.
