Foes of Tyranny, Friends of Animals

The land of Westeros is an intense place, what with the dragons and the in-fighting and all the unfortunate wedding situations. If a man can only be brave when he's afraid, Westeros must be chalk full of the bravest people alive…for now.

Fortunately, the cast that brings all that intrigue and drama to HBO’s Game of Thrones is made up of not only brave folks but some pretty caring individuals as well. From championing wild lions to adopting their homeless co-stars, these actors lead by example when it comes to spending their time and effort on helping animals. To an animal, every little bit of compassion makes an incredible difference and helps us move toward a kinder planet. They may be running around trying to put an end to one another on the show, but these actors demonstrate that everyone can stand up and be a voice for animals in his own way. Brace yourselves, kindness is coming. Clockwise from left...

Sophie Turner

When Game of Thrones opted to go with CGI for their dire wolves as the show progressed, Sansa Stark’s ill-fated Lady was out of a job and looking at being re-homed. Sophie Turner, who plays Stark, stepped in and adopted Zunni, giving the beautiful dog a new forever home and lots of love.

Jerome Flynn

Known as Bronn in the land of Westeros, Flynn is a major defender for wildlife. Working with The Global White Lion Protection Trust (WLT), he’s marched in London to protect lions in the wild. “To save the white lions, we need to raise global awareness of their sacred power and beauty – and how close we are to losing them in the world,” he said after he threw his support behind a partnership with Conscious Chocolate and WLT.

Maisie Williams

If you think that Arya Stark is a badass, she’s got nothing on the actress who plays her. Joining in marches against the dolphin cull in Taiji, Williams is staunchly against the cruel practice as well as the captivity of dolphins. She says, “There are so many ways to get in touch with animals in the wild, in their natural habitat. The fact that we think putting them in tanks is good for anyone is just nonsense, really.”

Peter Dinklage

Known for playing the fan favorite Tyrion Lannister on the show, off screen Dinklage is a vegetarian and major animal lover. Saying in his PETA ad about vegetarianism, “I like animals. All animals. I wouldn’t hurt a cat or a dog or a chicken or a cow. And I wouldn’t ask someone else to hurt them for me. That’s why I’m a vegetarian.”

Lena Headey

A vegetarian and supporter of animal rights, Headey has worked with PETA to campaign on behalf of circus animals. “No one deserves to be beaten and forced to perform against their will,” says the actress known for playing Cersei Lannister, ”but that’s exactly what happens to animals in circuses.”

You don't need to be a celebrity to be an animal welfare hero – just live your convictions. If you feel that raising and slaughtering animals for food is inhumane (both to the animals and to the planet), then reduce or eliminate the meat in your diet. We established http://KindMeal.my to help you discover the glories of meat-free dining. Check out our promotions and enjoy a truly guilt-free meal!
