Roots & Shoots Malaysia proudly presents a fund-raising screening of My Voice, My Life「爭氣」; a documentary film directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Ruby Yang.
The funds raised through this event will go towards supporting the legacy and vision of Dr. Jane Goodall to place the power and responsibility for creating community-based solutions to big challenges in the hands of young people. Through Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots Program, young people are given the opportunity to shape their community by identifying problems and developing a course of action towards finding a solution.
In keeping with Jane's spirit of youth empowerment and giving hope to young people, My Voice, My Life chronicles a group of under-privileged Hong Kong youngsters who underwent six months of vigorous training to produce a musical on stage. Through their trials and tribulations, the students challenge parents, teachers and policy makers to reflect on our way of nurturing the next generation.
Wall Street Journal named it "Hong Kong's five most-notable films of 2014". It also won the 2015 NPT Human Spirit Award at the Nashville Film Festival, and was selected by film critics societies from Hong Kong, Taiwan and Mainland China as "one of the ten best Chinese-language films of 2014".
